About sport
Sport is as old as the world. He always had practical meaning. In the antic times people practised sport to praise the gods. In the Maya culture boys fighted on the football pitch for life and death. In the middleages chariot races in Bisantium , sumo in Japani, boxing fights in Russia, archers competitions and fights of knights in West Europe always were observed by lots of people. When did the sport arrive in Zawadzkie? We know, that with first citizens and fairs. First informations about organized sport practise in our city are from year 1912. This times the "Manner-Turn-Verein" -Men Gymnastics Union was found. The meetings were made in the sport hall built for the Gymnasium, near the cinema (the cinema was also built before the war). The manager of this union was the mayorJózef Hedwig. The union organized shows during the carnivals. Members of the MTV were Ibrom brothers, Kosytorz and Tyślik. After the I World War VFB Zawadzkie was found. This organization worked until 1924, under management of engineer Kurt Braumann. On its place "Bund Fur Bewegungspiele" was found. It had football teams. There also was since 1923 - DJK (Deutsche Jugendkraft Schlesien Zawadzkie). This organization survived to 1933under leadership ofOskar Heidelmeyer. Jugendkraft had in Zawadzkie 3 football teams,2 menhandball teams, light athletic sectione, turistical section, theater group and an orchestra built from 30 persons. After Hitler took over the government in 1933 a part of football players from DJK left their union and came to - Sportgemeinschaft Oberhutten. Before the I World War bicycle club was found and his best sportsman wasJerzy Żyła. The club organized bicycle races after the war, e.g. race around the Św.Anna Mountain. In 1919 people found a tennis club. Tennis courts were made on the place of later built sport hall. Afterwards they were moved near the football pitch. The members of the club were the most important persons from the authorities and the owners of the steel mill. The manager was Kurt Braumann. In 1930 roku near the cemetery was found a shooting-box, and its manager was master Ludwig fromKlachocza. Shortly before the II World War the authorities started the construction of a swimming pool, but it was finished and open after the war, in 1965, when Poland took over this terrains. The Stal Zawadzkie Club was found in spring 1946. On the beginning it was a one-section club, but in next years new sections were opened under the care of steel mill "Andrzej". . The first official football match was played between Stal Zawadzkie and Sports Club Kłobuck in June 1946, and it finished with result 2:2. . In the football season 1963/64 the representants of our club worked themselves a success - they won the 3rd league and went to the 2nd official league. But our club lost with teams like Górnik Wałbrzych, "Warta" Poznań and"Wyzwolenie" Chorzów. A chess section was found by mr. Mrocheń in 1947, but it didn't have that much success like the football team in the early years. The handball section had two teams: from women and men. The first one won the country's cup in season 1955/56. It was the only one that great title in the club's history. In the day 4th of December 1975, a new sport hall was open. This event mobilized the volleyball players who led the team to the 2nd league. But not for a long time. The leader players: Miętus, Smolka and Machalica left the club and went to Gwardia Opole. In few next years the club lived through a crisis time: other good players left the club and emigrated to Germany, and few finished their career, some of players were transfered to better clubs from the 1st league. That big problems haven't had the table-tenis players, because this discipline of sport was always on a good level in our club.In Zawadzkie were and are trained the best players in the region and not only in the region, but even in Poland. All started in 1948, when Wilhelm Mrocheń with few interested people tried to found a table-tennis section. It was a success. With dynamic work of the youth and the coach Jerzy Psyk the effect was the title "Junior Master of the Region" in 1961. For more good results the club haven't waited long, because in 1967 an ambitious team from Stal Zawadzkie got to the interregional league and Helena Ludwig got for our club the title "Women Master of Opole Region." The true succes in the table-tennis came when to our club came Walenty Adamik, the best player from "Pionier" Strzelce Opolskie. The men team with W.Adamik was on the top of the table for many years.
